The advanced transport and traffic information systems introduced by stadtinfokoln offer a broad variety of information services, which enlarge the already existing Traffic Systems Management in Cologne. However, for a successful implementation of the system components the attainable benefits for the individual user and the public have to be proven. The paper presents a general methodological framework, which allows to assess the economic impact of advanced transport and traffic information systems. Key elements of the methodological framework are break-even analysis, cost-benefit analysis, employment effects analysis and budgetary impact analysis. The methodological approach of these assessment elements will be shortly described. By assessing the impacts of the Cologne Traffic Systems Management the methodology has been verified successfully. This will be illustrated by empirical results, which indicate the significant benefits of traffic information systems.
