Beyond the Barrack

Description of the project:
The project examines German barrack buildings which have been converted into university buildings. In doing so, it investigates how the colleges make their history visible in a scenographic way. One particular example is the Zeppelin University itself. With its new campus, Zeppelin University has moved into an anti-aircraft barrack of the Nazi-era and therefore faces the challenge of finding a reflected approach to the historic building. In this context, scenographer Christine Schranz together with a group of students developed an audio-walk which operates with recordings of eyewitness interviews. In addition, a book publication was written on the subject, which illuminates questions of transformation. Its contributions come from the fields of scenography, sociology, architecture, cultural studies and philosophy.
