Inducing a principle orientation in learners: Striving towards skills rooted in deep conceptual understanding

Projektbeschreibung:
The goal of this project is to develop and test a principle-orientation training intervention based on the prior work of Busch et al. (2008), Chi and VanLehn (2008), and Butcher and Aleven (2009). In particular, a training intervention will be developed that aims to foster the learners' focus on principles in later learning, irrespective of the contents to be learned (at least as long as the "transfer learning environment" provides opportunities to refer to principles, that is, contains information on principles). Such a training intervention has two "coin sides"; it has a cognitive side (i.e., the strategy that is taught) as well as a motivational side because an orientation towards principles in skill acquisition also implies a learning orientation in contrast to a pure performance orientation.
