Specification and maintenance of chromaffin cells and their preganglionic innervation

Projektbeschreibung:
This project (SFB 592,TP A23) addresses mechanisms underlying the generation of a population of neuroendocrine derivatives, the adrenal and extra-adrenal chromaffin cells, from the neural crest (NC). We have previously shown that chromaffin cells are already phenotypically determined prior to their immigration into the adrenal anlagen. We are currently investigating whether cell fate specification occurs already at the level of the NC. Furthermore, we analyse the role of glucocorticoid signalling for the postnatal development and maintenance of chromaffin cells using glucocorticoid receptor deficient mice. Finally, we are studying the role of GDNF family members and their receptors for the development of preganglionic sympathetic neurons in the spinal cord.
