Ionisation of atoms subject to short intense electric field pulses

Analytic and fully numerical methods have been developed to describe the response of an atom to an intense, very short laser pulse. The energy and angular distribution of ionised electrons has been calculated and a mechanism akin to Rabi flopping on the continuum has been identified.
