Phosphorus losses during simulated extreme precipitation on hillslopes

Description of the project:
In the course of rainfall simulations (Project: “Validation of surface runoff following extreme precipitation events on hillslopes”) the loss of nutrients and sediments in generated runoff is measured. Runoff samples are taken during two rainfall simulation experiments with variable antecedent wetness states and are analyzed for phosphate and nitrate. Thereby orthophosphate, total phosphate, as well as nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, and total nitrate are measured. Moreover, information about use (cultivation, crop rotation, mowing) and fertilization of the field sites (pasture and agricultural land) are gathered from the farmers. The analyses are envisaged to give information about the mobilization of phosphate and nitrate in the soil and the dynamics of export during precipitation events.
