Function of the BCR

The “small” brother of the TCR is the B cell antigen receptor (BCR) that is expressed on B cells and also recognizes foreign antigens. BCR nanoclustering Using immune-gold electron microscopy we could show that in resting B cells the BCR is nanoclustered. Mathematically describing the quantitative data we suggest that 40% of the surface IgD-BCR was present in dimers and 60% formed large laminar clusters of about 18 receptors (Fiala et al., 2013).
