Exzellenzcluster BIOSS - Image Analysis

Projektbeschreibung:
Partially automated data analysis is becoming one of the key technical challenges in the life sciences. More sophisticated imaging techniques create large data sets that are hard to evaluate manually. We provide methods to extract quantitative information from images (2D), volumetric images (3D), videos (2D+time) and volumetric videos (3D+time) stemming from all sorts of imaging modalities. We develop techniques for counting certain objects/structures and finding their exact position in the image. Segmentation techniques allow for size measurements and the constellation and shape of biological structures. We work on image alignment to compare images of different individuals. For time-lapse data we provide techniques to track biological structures and to quantify their motion. Moreover, we develop techniques to compensate for the shortcomings in image recording, such as noise, blur, or absorption.
