TransInterpret I: Developing a Quality Management for Heritage Interpretation

Description of the project:
The approach Heritage Interpretation is still quite unknown in many parts of Europe. The approach helps visitors experiencing the environmental and cultural heritage of a region in an informative and attractive manner. Heritage Interpretation is an important contribution to high quality and sustainable tourism. Many rural areas try to highlight their natural and cultural heritage by self-guided trails, exhibitions, museums, guided tours, etc. However, a lot of pitfalls can arise while planning and implementing such interpretive measures. Transferable standards and recommendations are derived from the evaluation of technical literature on theory, methods and practical experiences with Heritage Interpretation. These recommendations are available for all those who are planning and running tourist facilities (e.g. local authorities, associations and private persons). The Transinterpret Database is based on the various needs of planning and evaluation instruments in the practice. The recommendations and assessment tools being developed within the project should support organisations dealing with Interpretation as these are about to optimise existing facilities and to plan and implement new interpretation facilities. Heritage Interpretation can contribute to a better marketing of a region and to increased tourist competitiveness. Moreover, the interpretation of the environmental and cultural heritage strengthens the regional identity of the local population. Thus, the project Transinterpret is an important contribution to sustainable tourism development in the three partner regions. It will contribute to environmental protection and support the regional economy in a sustainable manner, considering the needs of the local population.
