Gran Campo Nevado Climate Glacier Project (GranCampoClaP)

The projekt GranCampoClaP aims at studying the influence of local climate variations on the energy and mass balance of two outlet glaciers of the Gran Campo Nevado in Patagonia (Chile) at 73° West/53°South. Furthermore, for the first time ever in this area, local climate is monitored with an automated weather station. Remote sensing data from radar satellites and optical sensors are also used to detect glacier changes. Vegetational and geomorphological field survey contribute to the landscape analyses. This project is carried out in co-operation with PD Dr. Rolf Kilian from the Department of Geology at the University of Freiburg.
