H2Info: An Online Information Tool for the German Hydrogen Transition

Projektbeschreibung:
Understanding the potential role of hydrogen in the German energy transition is difficult given that green hydrogen could be used in a variety of sectors, but needs to be produced from renewable energy, transported, stored and transformed. The aim of h2info is to communicate what role green hydrogen can play in reducing CO2 emissions in Germany, where it is used most effectively, and how it compares to direct electrification where possible. It does so through a website that allows users to create and examine scenarios: Users can choose how much hydrogen should be used in different sectors (e.g. traffic, shipping, industry, heating, electricity generation) and examine effects on the required amount of electricity for hydrogen production and on CO2 emissions. The target audience are journalists, politicians, researchers and an interested public that has a basic understanding of hydrogen and energy, but no specialized knowledge about, for instance, the efficiency of industrial scale electrolysis or the efficiency of transformation of hydrogen to other substances.
