• Erforschung von Paläoumwelten und Methodenentwicklung zur Anwendung der Ergebnisse auf Themenkreise der Nachhaltigkeit und des Globalen Wandels (Investigation of paleo-environments and development of techniques for prognostic use of corresponding results in the context of sustainability and global change)
• Kommunikations- und Wissensvermittlung über Methoden des eLearning (Communication und knowledge transfer with techniques of e-learning and blended learning)
• Entwicklung von Bewertungsverfahren für die praxisorientierte Umweltplanung (Development of assessment procedures for environmental planning)
• Geographische Regionalstudien im Kontext verschiedener ökologischer Rahmenbedingungen und Kulturkreise. Räumliche Schwerpunkte sind Nordamerika, die Arktis, die immergrünen, außertropischen Waldgebiete, südliches Afrika, die Antarktische Halbinsel sowie Entwicklungsländer.
